help, h pops out of time!!

i have a famrall h, and it is a real nice tractor. well when somone rebuilt the engine they never timed the engine to the pulley so you gotta kind of guess time it. well it starts real hard and today wile it was idleing it just stalled and wont start. just pisses gas out of the carb. it has done this before, i retime it and its fine. it usually takes me an hour or so to get it. how could i fix this. derek
