It didn't come from the factory but Super A's were sometimes done this way later. I have been told by one former IH mechanic that adding on a waterpump to the old thermosyphon system was a common thing, especially if the tractor was used hard doing lots of plowing and disking. According to him, you didn't have to add a thermostat, the pump just kept the water moving. I had my 1948 Super A overhauled this spring, and when I got it back the mechanic had added a water pump. The "gurgling" that any thermosyphon system will do after you shut down (Water continues to circulate until it cools off) had made him nervous, even after he completely went through the radiator. If you want a thermostat, you will have to find a different upper water outlet and a radiator, and you MIGHT have to alter the sheet metal--the pressure systems had taller radiators. (Basically you'd have a Super A-1 or 100 cooling system--the c-123 engines had pumps.)If I were you, I'd leave it alone. I was told by my IH mechanic friend that the motor won't run too cool, and chances are yours has been that way a while. I will say now that I've broken in my engine, I'll probably take the pump off and go back to regular thermosyphon this winter, because the pump interferes with the operation of the radiator shutter controls. (My tractor was a distillate/kerosene.) HTH
