Doug, as one who worked on those tractors for many years. Just a little friendly advice, what you see from the outside is not necessarily what is on the inside. For beginners the 966 appeared to be the same tractor as the 1066, but wait a minute the water pump when you rebuild it has more fins on the impeller, now when we come to the oil pump the rotor to disperse the oil is a little wider so as to displace more and pump more oil. Hope your getting the picture don't under power your self by getting some thing that appears to be the same when it really isn't. Another thing we were told is each tractor at the time was built with a 25% overload factor. Hope this helps. My personal experience always seemed to be, a farmer always buys a small tractor trying to make a bigger one out of it, it just costs more but the dealers won't tell you that. Oh and another thing to check is the cooling system capacity, that will explain a few things also.
