You must mean 358. The 310 and 358 were known as the German diesels. Built at IH's factory in Germany. They have the same bore, 358 has a longer stroke. Otherwise pretty much identical, 358's have an oil cooler. IH built the 312 and 360 here in the U.S., and used them in some of the same applications as the German engines. 686 and 886 tractors were powered by the 312 and 360 for most of their production, but were switched to the 310 and 358 at the end. Don't know why, mabey the German engines were more avalible or cheper to build at the time?
