JPM, My understanding, from what you wrote, is that you changed over to a battery/coil ignition from a magneto. You didn't say you changed the ignition switch to a battery-ignition type. If you didn't change the switch: You have no voltage at the coil wire because a magneto ignition switch grounds the magneto when the switch is off, and ungrounds the magneto and lets it fire when the switch is on (like many small engines). There is no battery power to a magneto as is required by a coil. If you sould decide to try to 'hot wire' the coil, be sure to remove the wire at the coil that comes from the magneto ignition switch, else you will likely burn up some wires and no telling what else! So far as I know, there is no safe way to adapt a Super-A magneto ignition switch to supply power to a coil. They used different switches. My opinion: Go back to the magneto, or get a battery-ignition switch and follow a wiring diagram to connect it all up. But that's your call. Hope this is helpful.
