As some of you know the F14 is finished (minus a paint job), running, starter added, and a whole lot of fun to tinker around on. It's amazing (at least in the wife's eyes) how many things it can be used for around the yard.
Here's the situation though.
It runs great at idle speed, and when it is actually under a load. So far the biggest load it has pulled is my truck - and that was just for fun. When you throttle it up it likes to sputter a bit, and surges, most especially when just driving around. It will come out of it, but when the governor is needed it will do it again. It seems like the governor doesn't do much until you load it down, which I think is the way I remember it always being - but it has been 20 years so I might not remember right.
I did have the governor all apart when I rebuilt the engine - put all new bearings in it, and replaced the shaft that connects to the carb linkage. It just never seemed quite right when I put it back together. When I intalled it back on the tractor it seemed kind of like it had tension on the fork for the weights.
The engine seems like its under a slight load all the time - even at idle and not moving. At any rate it doesn't seem to purr like I remember it used to.
