NY is not the only place where idiots are in charge of getting rid of old equipment,In Terre Haute IN, the fire dept recently sold their Old ladder truck for $500. The guy who bought it used it to trim some trees in his yard so it must have still had the ladders and equipment on it. Now the guy says it won't start and it is rotting in his yard ( I bet it just needs a new battery!). Now the town is complaining that they need a new ladder truck and it is going to cost more than they could hope to scratch together in 10 years. Geee, I hope they don't have any fires where they need ladders for the next decade. That $500 truck will look pretty good then!
