Your post at the bottom says you are using an external coil with your mag. That means you don't have a magneto anymore, but rather a battery ignition that is using the distributor on the magneto. In that case, you might as well trade and get the battery ignition distributor. That is unless you want to repair the magneto and use it as it was intended. I have one tractor with a battery ignition and two with magnetos. I agree with the others, if you have a working magneto, keep it. If my magnetos go bad, I would fix them and keep them. You don't need a battery to run the tractor. Neither of my two tractors with magnetos ever quit running because the battery went dead. Not so for the one with the battery ignition.
