Suspect the guy means the tractor has a cam-driven pump - it's mounted toward the front of the tractor relative to a belly pump, hence his "front mount" description. (There's no easy way to drive a pump off direct off the front of the crank on account of the front bolster/steering pivot shaft arrangement on the M.) Regarding the diesel miss, it could be as simple as an improperly adjusted intake, exhaust or starting valve. Or it could be a bad valve, broken rings, a bad injector, a failing injection pump, etc. (get out the checkbook!) You can verify which cylinder is missing by carefully cracking loose the injector line to each cylinder one at a time with the motor idling. Change in sound will indicate which is the missfiring cylinder. It's the diesel equivalent to pulling plug wires one at a time on a gas motor. WARNING!! BE CAREFUL when you do this! Wrap the injector connection with a shop rag before loosening so you don't get sprayed with high pressure diesel fuel when the connector is cracked - it will easily penetrate skin and cause serious health problems!!
