As far as valve timing that is a new one for me as i have always just timed them buy the markes on the gears but i will look into that HUMMMM. And the tag that you saw is just what you said . You could up grade that engine to a 291 , but you would have to bore it and use the special sleves for the up grade and yes it is best to use a hdy sleeve puller if you have one but you can manuialy pull them with a homemade puller. Where a lot of people go wrong on the rebuil on a IH engine is that they use and after market kit and the sleves only come in one size and if you look at the deck of the block you will see letters stamped in it next to each bore (A -B ---C-D ) are the bore classifacationthe run of themill sleve will fit A and B but will fit loose in a C-D hole and stand a chance of pulling out and go down around the crank , Myself i like to up date to a 291 and bore the block so all sleves fit tite.
