I am not going to speculate on what anyone has written about these engines, I can only speak from experience. I purchased a 1066 in Aug. 1975 at Truro, Nova Scotia, Canada. That was the first 100 plus hp tractor sold by that dealership. over years my tractor was on dyno twice and always put out 160 hp. I will say further that once loaned my tractor to the owner of a 4630 Deere. When he returned my tractor he told me it made his Deere look bad on forage harvester. My tractor had about 5,000 hours on it at the time. After the sale of my tractor, to me the dealer at Truro, NS went on to sell many 100hp plus 66, 86 and 88 tractors. I did some custom filling of silos. When my 1066 started filling 24' x 70' silos in 20 hours it gave the dealer some awful good advertizing. My tractor had 8,500 hours on it at engine rebuild. Tractor was still putting out hp, sleeves developed holes, as did many others in the area. IH had shiped those tractors into Nova Scotia without water filters. We as farmers were not aware of problems associated with this until we had to pay the piper. Thus John Deere grabed the business my 1066 had built up for IH, just one of the many reasons IH is where it is today. I firmly believe that the way my 1066 was operating just before that leak, it could have gone 15,000 hours before engine rebuild. It was still putting out hp , no oil leaks, etc.

Today's Featured Article - Chores - by Frank Young. The ceaseless passing of time! It is at once our friend and our enemy. It measures our progress and it makes us old. Like most features of our life, few things are all good or all bad, and most such judgments depend on our own perspective or viewpoint. In our particular hobby, we enjoy the nostalgic return to the days of our youth as we recreate many of the scenes that took place on the family farm that served as the stage for the first few acts of the play that is our live ...
