still struggling!

Over the past couple of days I have posted questions about my 350 util. and its charging problems.I have gotten a lot of hlp and feedback,however I still cannot tell whether or not the alternator is putting out anything.Is there a simple way to monitor its output? I have a multimeter. Do you have to polarize the alternator? It is a Delco-Remy 12v
