Randy, Look for date codes on the major castings. These look like a small, narrow plate that has been screwed to the casting, but are actually cast into the parts. The date codes have two numbers and a letter, all separated by what appear to be screw heads. They will looke like this: *7*12*S*. This would indicate a July 12, 1949 casting date. This will usually indicate a '49 model tractor. Casting dates that indicate late in the year may indicate a tractor of the next year's vintage. If all of the casting dates indicate the same year, you can be fairly sure of the year of manufacture. Since the Cub started production in '47, here are the letter codes for the years '47 through '57. 1947-Q, '48-R, '49-S, '50-T, '51-U and W, '52-X, '53-Y, '54-Z, '55-A. Starting in '56 with B, the list proceeds through the alphabet again. Hope this helps, Phil
