I just rebuilt my 42 M and replaced the guages. The oil guage worked, but the temp guage never moved. The IH shop replaced it. I work in a lab and have some cool stuff that can read temp spot-on. While the boss was gone I checked my new IH guage. Here is what I found. The gage started to move at 117F the line between cold and run is 181F the letter U in RUN is 204F and a little past the letter N in RUN is 214F (with a long way to go before the HOT zone). Is this guage right? Not even close. And cost way to much to be that far off. Did I take it back? No! I know where the safe zone is. I don't know if all of IH guages are that far off but I won't put one in unless I test it. I just hope the oil guage is not that far off.
