I have just finished restoring an IH Little Genius #8. I went by the information posted at the Wisconsin Historical Society on decisions of the IH paint Committee. That also matched the red, white, black, and blue combination on ERTL models. But guess what? Outside it was all rust, but as I took apart various assemblies and found the original paint inside, it appeared the factories didn't always follow the code. For example the steel tail wheel had red under the hub not white. The upright arms holding the coulter yokes had green under the clamps. IH may have bought them from another supplier. The inside of the clutch trip assembly was a yellow not blue. It had an IH part # but maybe someone else made it? Maybe IH painted the whole unit again after it was assembled, but I can't imagine they would bother to paint some parts red, some parts blue, etc. after it was assembled. I wonder how many plows were actually painted like the paint committee specified? I almost wish I had painted mine all red. Right now it looks like it was painted just for the 4th of July. Not too many people are going to believe it was painted to original specs.
