they commonly had a ferel on either end, and you should have enough room to cut the bad end off(nut and ferrel) the tank end,replace the nut and ferrel from your local napa store. That is really the only reason they leak,make sure you did not strip the bowl under the tank or the carb inlet as it is fairly easy to damage them,good luck!
