Drove across Utah on I-70 yesterday. Only green east of the San Rafael swell was a couple of feet on either side of the road where what water there was that hit the road ended up. Lots of grass looks black (dead), not just brown. Driest I've seen in over 20 years of driving that road, and it's only early June. Little better at higher elevations, but not much. Be amazingly lucky if we don't have some really, really major fires out here this year - we're certainly off to a good start in that direction already. For those thinking about vacation in the Rockies this year - might think about waiting until the drought breaks, or at least check the conditions where you're heading beforehand.
