On a I-544 with a C200 gas engin what will cause a mechanical banging sound on the #1 Cyclinder with the spark plug in and not noise when plug is out? Noise could also be excaping exaust. Awnser: After much investigation I decided to remove the piston and one entire skirt was broken off. Upon detailed examination of the oil pan the broken skirt was found. If I would have check the oil pan in more detail I would have solved this problem much earlier, but I thought the lumps were just sludge, not metel.
Anyone ever break a piston skirt before and no the cause?
