That one needs some TLC as i would bet the farm that everything is plum slap wore out and that the detent spring is gone and some of the rollers are in the hdy filter , the best way is to start at the top and work down to the range trans cover and also the speed trans on the speed trans i would say that the detent spring is gone and you just slid thru 2nd and third.but not sure could be all linkage just pull the right side off the cowel and start looken and fallow it down and see what is lose and on the 1086 it could be just a linkage thing or it could be the same as the 9
