not exactly sure but i think the surfaces you speak of ar the races and should be able to get those out.I think there are two bearing on the shaft one on each side of the hub but nit sure,I hqavent been into mine yet so I really dont know.There should also be a dust cover on the outside of the shaft on each side of the wheeel,at least thats the way mine is.
