I am looking for ideas on how to build a fork-lift attachment. I would like to mount it on my saginaw 3pt hitch. I realize you can buy the "forks" for a 3pt, but I would like to use a fork-lift "mast" for extra height. I have been searching for a used forklift mast with no luck- where do you find those things? The dealers seem to want alot for them, plus they are a little too big for what I want to to do. I only want to be able to lift 1200 lbs about 10ft high. I am starting to think it would be easier and cheaper to mount the forks on a loader. I have access to a metal fab shop, so my capabilities of construction are not limited. I did find a really old allis chalmers fork-lift with 2500 lb rating and 8ft lift height. The guy wanted a $1000 for it, but I did not want the whole thing- nor did I want to spend over $400.
