This is how I put an electric hour meter on my H. I got a waterproof hourmeter that operates on 4 to 40 volts from JCWhitney. See pic below. Click here to buy the hourmeter.
Then I bought a Single Pole Double Throw toggle switch from Parts Express. See the diagram to understand how a SPDT switch works. Click here to buy an SPDT switch.
I mounted the hourmeter under the gas tank on my H, see pics.
Now when I flip the toggle switch up, it ungrounds the magneto and grounds the hour meter so it runs. If you have a distributor you can just hook the negative side of the hour meter to your push pull switch on the same wire that goes to the coil(assuming you have a positive ground system).
