I agree with fuel starvation. I would guess a partially blocked main jet or trash getting into the fuel. I would check the fuel strainer in the sediment bowl and the inlet screen to the carb. If those are clear, I would remove the carb. If I remember right, you can remove the main jet without disassembling the whole carb. If all are clear, you probably need to take it all apart and clean it well and do a minor rebuild. Any half wit can rebuild a carb (tested that theory myself).
