That timing mark is VERY hard to see. Laid on my back, cleaned flywheel off, shined a light on it, moved flywheel very slowly with a screwdriver and finally found it--a very shallow mark. You need to be absolutely sure you are at TDC. Don't know anything about Fairbanks, but I assume you can follow the timing procedure given for the IH mag. Set on #1 by feeling compression and continue cranking (with screwdriver) until marks line up. It is hard for me to get exactly TDC even by watching #1 come up with light shining thru plug hole, so I need that mark. Point rotor to # 1 terminal on cap, install mag with top next to engine (tighten it enough so that it won't move), do one more rev to next TDC with screwdriver, pull top of mag out till it trips. Set TDC on #1 again, and mag should trip just as you get to TDC. Forgive me if you have already done this.
