Water or hydraulic fluid?

Replaced the head gasket on my C because of low compression on #2 and #3. Had head milled because someone earlier had pried it off with a screw driver and gouged it. No visible cracks in head. Machine shop guy says valves are ok. Tractor runs fine except for a small amount of smoke out the oil filler (blow by). No exhaust smoke (neither blue or white) and no evidence of oil in the water. Ran tractor about an hour yesterday with new oil and antifreeze. When I unscrewed the crankcase plug this morning and let the oil dribble, oil is milky for an ounce or two and then clears up -- no green antifreeze color. Same as before I changed the head gasket. Is this water or hydraulic fluid (hytran)? Will the hydraulic fluid mix uniformly with the oil, i.e., all milky, or will it settle to the bottom like water? If so next step is to replace seal in hyd pump, but I'm still not sure about the head gasket and/or O rings at bottom of sleeves (I've heard the o-rings don't just dribble, when they go, they go). Viewed through the spark plug holes all cylinders have moisture of some kind in them -- can't reach it to see if it's water--have not checked it hot, will visible condensation form overnight? There was (apparently) a little antifreeze in a couple of the cylinders when I removed the head, but that could have come out of the head when I removed it. By the way what is the correct torque? I torqued and re-torqued to 65 lbs ft as per IT manual. IH service manual doesn't say and www.weberstractorworks.com says 80. Sorry for the long post.

Today's Featured Article - Third Brush Generators - by Chris Pratt. While I love straightening sheet metal, cleaning, and painting old tractors, I use every excuse to avoid working on the on the electrics. I find the whole process sheer mystery. I have picked up and attempted to read every auto and farm electrics book with no improvement in the situation. They all seem to start with a chapter entitled "Theory of Electricity". After a few paragraphs I usually close the book and go back to banging out dents. A good friend and I were recently discussing our tractor electrical systems when he stated "I figure it all comes back to applying Ohms Law". At this point ... [Read Article]
