depending on the year, the early 656 and the late are different, setting on the tractor if the part no on the back housing are on the top right front of the housing, this is early 656 664 , 544, if the part no is behind the right axel housing , this is a stouter housing and takes a longer bottom transmission shaft, this is the late 656, 666 686 housing, the ones we use in the pulling tractors, this housing weighs 50 lb moore than the other, the gears will interchange, but the bottom shaft wont
