Good post and re-post Hugh. Couldn't help but notice your ending comment relating to downfall of IH/Farmall. Makes me kind of wonder if maybe it didn't start back with the TA introduction to the late letter series. They seemed to have been natorious for going out. Up untill then the IH line of tractors seemed to be top of the line, rock solid tuff, dependable with minimal upkeep, take a licken and keep on ticken. Then came the TA, perhaps the first weak point. Perhaps IH started adding more equipment to tractor that just wasn't quit mastered on top of going into the more power, more power and bigger bigger era. At about that same point, the big competitor (John Deere), finally smartened up and scrapped the 2 cylinder joke, and started making verticle in-line engines. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a John Deere fan, and there is alot of latter model International tractors that I have not been around, but when IH downfall is suggested, I often wonder if it didn't all start with that TA and progress from that point.

Like most features of our life, few things are all good or all bad, and most such judgments depend on our own perspective or viewpoint.
