Their purpose was to burry the cornstalks when plowing back in those days a plowed field of cornstalks looked clean. They did a lot better job with a lot less trouble then did the original jointers as the rolling cutters did not have a good bearing intil later years. The LANTZ were among several types avail YENTER was another brand. If you want the plow restored to original have fun finding the jointers as another thing used was an extension on the moldboard called coverboards these were availway back in the 30s
