Fred - Sounds like you may be looking at tractor someone cobbed together from parts of a couple different machines! The chassis S/N indicates it's a 1949 MD (diesel). However the C-264 on the block says it's a Super M or 400 gasoline motor. Suggest looking for date codes on any of the larger chassis and engine castings. Codes look like this: 1*25*Y. First digit is the month, 2nd is the day and last character is the year the part was poured at the foundry. (The year code is S=1949, T=50, U or W=51, X=52, Y=53, Z=54, A=55, etc.)

The opening in the belly is where the Liftall pump and reservoir once lived. Only early Super M's without live hydraulics had a Liftall there - the later ones had the hole is filled with a sheet metal piece.

Regardless of it's heritage, if the price is right....go for it!!
