Jim, Sounds like your TA needs to be rebuilt. The Ta is an on the move gear reduction of about 60% speed. It is very useful for plowing, loader work or pulling a load up a hill. You can down shift without the clutch and shifting gears. It is not for slowing down when going down hills, it will free wheel and can disingrate. To replace or rebuild you have to split the tractor at the clutch housing and then separate the TA section from the transmission. A word of caution, when you go to seprate the TA from the transmission there is a bolt on the bottom that is under a plate that covers 1/2 of the TA housing under side. I found this bolt to late the first time I split our 300U. The tractor can be used just fine with the TA not working, or working the way you described it. It is working as a solid transmission input shaft right now. I'm right now in the process of putting my Super MTA back together after rebuilding the TA in that. It is quite a time consuming job, but with the right tools and a decent manual I'm sure a deisel mech could do it. I've done 3 and in the middle of my forth, it's kind of fun in a way, great winter time project. Feel free to send me an e-mail if you would like to discuss or have any questions. Good Luck! Ernie Bob
