sammy: I always thought that frame was wider also. There were some professed former IH parts men on here 3 months ago, that shouted me right down on that one. They claim chassis is exactly same. I am not sure I agree with them, as I had a large hydraulic pump mounted between drawbar cross bar and top link pin hole, and driven by 1000 rpm take off. This was on my 1066. A friend with a 966 was going to borrow that piece of equipment. The pump I had fabricated mountings to fit 1066 would not go on 966 as dimencions were too large both ways. These IH parts guys claimed only difference was in catagory 3 hitch on 1066. They claimed all 06, 56, 66 and 86 chassis were the same except 6 and 15 tractors. If you know different, I would like to know about it. It's been 15 years since I have had tractors or manuals so just going from memory. I wasn't going out to buy a new set of books to settle argument. The weights I was quoting stem from a mess I got in one time at highway scales. I had my 1066 and 656 both on low bed trailer. I had purposely put 1066 behind this evening as I was dropping it first. I had crossed these same scales many times with 1066 on front. They said I was overweight on trailer axles and would have to correct it before proceeding. After 3 hours of weighing, loading and unloading I was able to proceed. Turns out I had always been a bit overweight it was just more equal, and had never run across a public servant this pickey. My weights were strictly from that experience and really guesses as I knew truck-trailer empty and at one point he weighed me with 1066 only on trailer. The only figure I was given was total weight and and how much extra 656 added to load.
