Just remove the PTO housing and everything comes out as a unit. Drain the tranny first, because the oil level is well above the hole for the PTO unit. You are going to need some gaskets and seals to put it back properly. You don't need to remove the gear that drives the belt pulley to replace the PTO shaft. I did all this recently and my memory is short, but I think I recall enough to help. The PTO shaft comes out toward the outside(toward the rear), but you have to remove the gear on the inside first and you can't just drive the shaft out after removing the retainer bolt on the inside end. The woodruft key in the shaft (for the gear) will keep you from driving it out. Thus you need a puller to get the gear off. Don't ask how I know all this. Of course since your PTO shaft is sheared off, it may not be an issue depending on the location of the break.
