Hi Hugh,
I think my tractor is going to cost a little more than golf. Course, I have no idea what golf costs, but I can see all sorts of things I want to do with the tractor. Maybe the reason my hubby doesn't complain is because it does keep me home and "out of trouble" while he's at work making the money so I can spend it on the tractor..goats..pigs...chickens and such.
He hates farming! His father was a farmer and so he had to work when he was a boy and said "been there done that". We live next house up the road from where his dad (Schuyler) lived and have 45+ acres inherited from him. Schuyler is the one that got me into the farming fever. (I'm a born city girl and always hated it, love the country)
Started with the chickens and garden.
One of my boys was born in 1990 with lactose intolerance so I got a Nubian goat for milk. Goat needs company, got 2 pigmies. The goat had babies and so on. Schuyler said I ought to get a couple of pigs...the ol' mortgage lifter...I got 6. Sold 3, ate two and kept one. Had named her Cuddles and she was a sweety. Would even get in the pool with the boys at 422 pounds! Worked at a small/large animal veterinary clinic so knew the lg animal vet well, so he inseminated Cuddles. Got 4 babies, one dead. Sold two, ate one. The rest is history.
Schuyler passed on in 1992 at 87 years old, but left me with so much by his knowledge from back in the old days. I miss him so...now everything is so modern and big...and I just want to get by and enjoy doing it. I don't want to get rich off of the farm. But I do want it to pay my way. Befriended a few of his buddies from the old school and they too have passed on. It's just heartbreaking because the older guys have a different mindset than the younger guys....my age and younger.
Hubby doesn't have an interest in the computer either. Old dog/new tricks theory. He's about 15 years my senior and boring, but sweet.
In any case...tractor questions...
Recall that this is an International 350D utility. 1957. Wide front end. Equipped with the TA. I said I know not much about Diesel, but do know it's a 4 cyl. I need to get shop manuals and such and am afraid I'll get the wrong ones. I checked the plate on the motor and it has been changed to a plate that reads:
Rebuilt by Standard Motor Parts
200 Carroll Street
Akron, Ohio
( I couldn't find the company so I emailed the Economic Developement dept of Akron to see if they knew where the place went, haven't heard back yet)
Numbers I could find:
Mains undersize (010)
Rods undersize (010) ?
Cylinder size (ST) ?standard?
Job number (4687A) (I'm hoping I can find the company and they still have the records...wouldn't that be neat?)
Date (D ? 6) can't read the second number/digit.
The serial and model number boxes are blank as far as I can see. They are so painted over I hate to mess and ruin the plate.
What all do I need to know to get parts and shop manuals? I want to get new filters for oil, air and fuel x 3. But afraid I will get the wrong ones. Does the shop manual list all of the info I'm looking for?
I do have the operators manual # 1004494R3 but the pics in there don't match my tractor. Battery is stated to be under the seat and mine is to the left of the steering. Hydraulic levers are in a different place too. Is this the right manual for me?
Specs are in the book I have but not item requirements. Mainly lubrications and such.

As usual, any help would be appreciated,
bye for now,
Diana

Today's Featured Article - An Old-Time Tractor Demonstration - by Kim Pratt. Sam was born in rural Kansas in 1926. His dad was a hard-working farmer and the children worked hard everyday to help ends meet. In the rural area he grew up in, the highlight of the week was Saturday when many people took a break from their work to go to town. It was on one such Saturday in the early 1940's when Sam was 16 years old that he ended up in Dennison, Kansas to watch a demonstration of a new tractor being put on by a local dealer. It was an Allis-Chalmers tractor dealership, ... [Read Article]
