Thanks Bill !

First question....I have the I&T Shop Service Manual IH 8....
Is there a better book?

I'll tell you a little about the tractor....It looks like it has been taken pretty good care of.....metal is good on the hood and tank...grill is so-so....looks like it has been bent sideways, maybe brushed with another machine or something.
Rear rims look pretty darn good with one new tire....which happens to be the only one not up. The guy said it had a slow leak and would stay up for several days.
I looked the machine over....looking for cracks and weld etc......couldn't find any or repaired damage.
Everything seems to be complete as near as I can tell, except I'm not totally sure about the hitch parts etc....it has a single draw bar out the back.
Things I did notice in addition to the stuck engine.......I think there is suppose to be a band around and over the generator brushes....guy has that covered up with a plactic jug of some kind.....the battery box is an industrial yellow color and is in good shape except there is no lid. The steering has some play in it, part of which is the universal that is in the bend at the bottom of the seering wheel rod. Steering wheel is by no means good, I have seen a lot worse. There is 2 springs attached to the brake pedals (return springs?) that will have to be replaced.....All in all...I thought it looked pretty decent and appears that it has been kept inside for most of it's life.
Oh yeah...one other thing that is missing is the pulley at the PTO.
I'm sure that I will find a lot of things when I get it home.

Today's Featured Article - The 8N and the Fox - by Zane Sherman. Dec. 13 1998, Renfroe, Alabama. Last niht I dreamed about the day that I plowed the field of about 10 acres over on what Jimmy and Dandy called the Ledbetter field. I was driving the 1948 8N Ford tractor that Jimmy bought in 48 new This was prebably in about 1951 and maybe even befor the house was built. This would have made me to be about16 years old and I drove the tractor for nothing and would have paid to drive it if I had had any money which I didn't, but neit ... [Read Article]
