Plain water is fine as long as you are in a location where the weather does not get below freezing. Since you are in CA, I assume that is the case. If the water freezes and you drive the tractor, you are likely to ruin at least the tube in addition to getting a very rough ride. I found this out the hard way. The Farmall C I bought only had water in the tires and I did not know it until i drove it one cold day. At first I thought an axle had broken or a bearing had gone out. Too late before I realized what the problem was. The tube was already ruined.
