Hot weather gets the H down, too

Twice this week my H firmly resisted starting. Both times I had driven it pulling a trailer a mile or three to a pile of wood chips far back in the woods. I stopped and parked with the magneto/distibutor side in the afternoon sun. It would have been high nineties in the shade if there had been any shade. I loaded the trailer with a pitchfork; after thirty or forty minutes it was time to move the trailer to a new spot. The H spun like a top but didn't fire, Very unusual, it's always been instant to pop off.
I messed around with the carb, made sure there was gas but not flooded. Then I pulled the coil wire and checked the spark. There was a visible spark, I couldn't tell how strong what with the glare of the sun and the tears of desperation.
After a while (five or ten more minutes of trying off and on) it suddenly stuttered and ran. I could not detect anything unusual about the way it ran.
Both times I left it running while I finished loading the mulch. When I got back to the shed I shut it down and after a few minutes tried to start it. It may have turned over a few seconds more than usual, but then fired up like normal.
So, any ideas? Coil? Vapors? Magnets overheating?
I have never understood electricity.
