My Super C has a shutter to help control coolant temp. Check to see if it is closed or not. If my memory (poor, at best) serves me, when the lever is forward it is closed and would contribute to overheating. The lever is on the left side of the steering post, just above your clutch foot pedal. You need to check the gauges often on these old girls!
