I have a question about frequency of oil change for the trans/diff on my H and M. I am using GL-5 85W-90 oil in both. The owners manual that came with the tractor says to change it yearly, however a IH mechanic told me that with modern EP oils, that isn't necessary. He says the original recommendation was from the days when straight mineral oils were used, and that modern GL-5 gear oil is much more durable. I use both tractors to farm about 160 acres of crops. The M does some chore work also in the winter. If it is ok to leave modern oils in longer, what should the change interval be? I dont' want to change it more often that it needs to be--we are talking about 20 gal of oil total for both tractors. It gets rather expensive, and then there is a lot of waste oil to dispose of.
