Water in oil can change the color to a cream. Foreign chemicals can do bad things to oil. Sounds like to me the mechanic charged you for something he didn't do, or he did a very bad job of it. I will have to say that I agree with Randy. If you took the time to do it right yourself, why did you use second hand used oil? I don't beleive I would re-use used engine oil that I let sit for 2 years to let contaminates settle out of it. Same difference for transmissions and rear ends wouldn't it be? I believe I would of footed the bill for new oil even if it was several gallons. Never the less, if you are absolutely sure the mechanic didn't do the work, I would for sure confront him about it. You never know, you might get your money back, he might offer to do an equivelant job for free, or if nothing else he will know that he can't just rip somebody off without them finding out about it. Just my 2 cents.
