Steve, the pipe is someone's redirect of the exhaust pipe. Look at picture #13 and you'll see where it was butchered. I haven't even looked at the transmission or rear end yet, I've just been focused in pulling the engine and checking it out. It sat without any coverss on the crankcase vent or air cleaner, so it is a solid ball of rust inside.

Only one of the tires was holding air, but the front tire is still serviceable and will take a tube. The owner gave me a set JD wheels with 9-24 tires that are like new, so I'm good on rubber. Everybody's guess is that it sat there for 25 to 30 years for that tree to grow up through it like that.

I was given the tractor by the current landowner for helping her clean up a pile of old farm equipment left by several previous owners. She has no history on the tractor, I'm still asking our neighbors what they might know about it. The tractor sat there, less than 3 mile from my home all this time!

I have just learned where there are 2 other Bs in that I might get for parts, I'll keep posting my progress on the restoration.

Greg

Last niht I dreamed about the day that I plowed the field of about 10 acres over on what Jimmy and Dandy called the Ledbetter field. I was driving the 1948 8N Ford tractor that Jimmy bought in 48 new This was prebably in about 1951 and maybe even befor the house was built. This would have made me to be about16 years old and I drove the tractor for nothing and would have paid to drive it if I had had any money which I didn't, but neit ... [Read Article]
