You will need to take the gas tank, seat, steering, and unbolt the fenders where they hook to the transmission top. When you have it ready to take the top off you will need help, it is heavy. You only have to get it up about 6 or 8 inches to make it all clear. When you go back with it you have the gears lined up the best you can and then set the back of the top down easy and look through th gap in the front to line up the gears. It is not hard but you will need help. Nothing should drop out when you lift it so that will not be a problem. Good luck with it.
