Well Dick, I have both and the 400 FH works better with the plows. More control with the hydraulically controlled "depth control". It will lift mounted plows and other tools higher out of the ground. It is quieter. The "D" handle on the left side of the 450 hitch is hard to operate. It sets the amount or degree of "draft control". There is a cam or bellcrank in the draft control that is supposedly weak. My hitch seems to be OK. You can mount a grader blade on the front of the hitch and control the depth over a seven inch range. I don't think that IH ever developed such a tool. My blade is home made. There maybe other reasons that I am not aware of. I know several farmers who prefer the early hitch but I can't recall why they favor it. I should point out that I am not a farmer and my experience is very limited compared to a professional.
