glad to hear that you got it going.have been working on a W-4.have had that same problem.it won't hurt your engine to throw in a pint of atf or 2 cycle oil to help clean up the carb.it might smoke a little,but that's ok.one other thing that i found is that if the plumbing is'nt sealed good between the carb and the intake manifold,it has trouble drawing the fuel/air mixture into the cylinder.found out the hard way that when you put in new manifold gaskets,mating surfaces have to be spotless.threw that in just in case you ever have to go that far with it.
