Don - Is the 'can' part of the condenser fastened to grounded metal? If so probably the coil came from in a car equipped with a radio. The condensor would be the RFI (radio frequency interference) suppression condenser. Should be no harm removing the condensor - it's not doing anything. Unless of course you have an AM radio on your Super C and are bothered by static!
