With hard starting, I have almost always found it to be in the ignition. My 450 gave me fits for almost a year. I changed the coil, points, condenser, rotor, wires and plugs. The cap looked good as new, but I saw it arc on the outside once. I changed the cap and all was well. My guess is ignition.
