As you have noticed, they are very similar. The 464 is rated at about 5 more horsepower at the PTO. The 464 is the successor to the 454, all were made in the '70s. If they are in similar condition, I'd prefer the 464 because they had a little more time to work all the bugs out. Everyone cautions about the parking brake on both...It's in the transmission and if it's been run with the brake on there is the possibility of the hydraulic system being contaminated with the shreded lining. Maybe someone will come along with more details.
