Hi Captn'

The story, as it stands right now, is that the owner called into the dealer telling him to bring out a couple of batteries out to his farm to get his old tractor running, which has been parked in a shed for 5 years.

So, the dealer does this only to find that the starter still would only "click". Back to town they come, get a new starter and haul it back out to the farm and put it on. Shucks! Still only a click at the starter.

At this point the mechanic puts a pipe wrench on that big front pulley nut and the engine won't budge.

Now, the farmer throws his hands in the air as he doesn't want to fool with the old tractor anymore and wants to sell that new (5-year-old) loader and the tractor back to the dealer as he is strapped for cash.

The dealer calls me and says that he has finally found me a 966, has already sold the loader off it, but it is going to be a little while before they can get it hauled into town because the loader is down on the ground and they have to get it lifted up to load the gizmo on the trailer/truck/or maybe it is a flat-bottomed boat (I don't know how they are trasporting it).

He says it is straight as an arrow, has only been used to feed cattle with and that he thinks the engine is stuck due to the long period of sitting idle. The darned kids have broken a few of the windows in the cab too. Would I be interested in the tractor for salvage price?

Well heck yes! Get it in here and we'll see what we've got.

So, as of this writting, I haven't laid so much as an eye-blink on the little princess. :>)

It could be a total wash-out too, dunno.

Allan

Today's Featured Article - New Life for an Old Allis - by Tyler Woods. My friend Jon, has an old '39 Allis Chalmers B. He thought it a marginal tractor that had long since served its time. She smoked terribly and never had much power but he couldn't afford another so he was limping along with what he had. Jon's Allis has a small front loader and though it doesn't carry much, it serves his needs. It was the hard starting and low power that made him think it was time to replace the old girl. Jon called me to help him discover why his tractor wouldn't start ... [Read Article]
