A lot of poeple have done that, apparently with no detrimental effects that they knew about. But, isn't the new compression of your 706 about 140? If so you will have one cylinder with 140 lbs and one or more with 100 lbs. Using the 10% rule, none should be less than 10% of the highest, or some variation of that. All of the cylinders are getting low on compression, and you have to pull the head, drop the pan, etc. I know you want to save money, but--?
