First I want to thank everyone for the information on spliting disassembling the transmission. I got busy and it took me longer than I had planned but I got the tractor split and the gear replaced. To bad it wasn't an upper gear as that would have taken half the time. Getting the pto unit out was probably the toughest as I was afraid to hit too hard, but with some heat right on the seal it eventually came out. I still have one problem, everything is back together but the seasonal disconect for the PTO will not engage correctly. In order to get it to engage I have to push the little lever farther than it is designed and then of course the hole does not line up for the bolt which secures it in place. I am pretty sure I am lining up the knob on the end of the lever with the coupling when I put togeather but it hard to be sure b/c I have to close it up as just as it lines up. I hope I am explaining this clearly enough. In other words, either the coupling needs to slide too far to engage or I am not lining in up with the slot in the movable coupling. Does anyone have an suggestions as to why this is not lining up or help in making sure the coupling is lined up with the knob? I cannot find any adjustment.
