Hi Doug, The old 540 PTO speed was used on the smaller equipment. When the implements started being manufactured for the 80-100 & up horse tractors, the 540 drive lines just could not stand the heat in the kitchen. That's when the heaver 1000PTO equipment came into being. Boy, I just don't think it is a good idea to "convert" from one speed to the other. I've done it on a NH3 nurse pump, but that really wasn't pulling much of a load, just volume of gas. Allan
